The World is a dangerous place. Not because of the people who are evil; but because of the people who don't do anything about it. - Albert Einstein

Part 2: Watchmen on the Walls

In the book of Isaiah we read, “I have set watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem. They will never be silent day nor night. You who call on Yahweh, take no rest, and give Him no rest, until He establishes, and until He makes Jerusalem a city all people will praise.” (Isaiah 62:6-7) Perhaps you realize the importance of supporting Israel. Perhaps you see the need and want to help, but don't know what to do. Below, I give ten practical ways to support Israel. You may not be able to do everything on the list, but everyone can do something on the list.

Ten Practical Ways to Support Israel

No. 1Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. (Psalm 122:6) The word 'peace' found in English translations of the Bible is the Hebrew word 'shalom.' Shalom means more than the mere absence of agitation or discord. Shalom implies completeness in relation to health, welfare, safety, tranquility, prosperity, and rest. Pray for the peace (shalom) of the Jewish people in Jerusalem, in Israel, and throughout the world.

Additionally, pray that:

  • God will give wisdom, insight, and understanding to Prime Minister Netanyahu and members of the Knesset
  • God will protect and strengthen the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and give guidance to all those responsible for security, including cyber security
  • Israeli citizens live together in unity, without internal discord, and in particular, without racial discrimination (Psalm 133:1)
  • The economy flourishes in spite of the BDS movement
  • God will protect the Israeli citizens and the Jewish Diaspora from anti-Semitic and Muslim violence
  • God will prepare the hearts and minds of the people to accept Yeshua, the Prince of Peace, as their promised Messiah and that all Israel will be saved
  • The Prince of Peace returns soon. Only then will “they will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4 / Micah 4:3) Only then will there be lasting peace.

“Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me.” (Psalm 59:1)

No. 2Donate to organizations and ministries that support Israel. “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)

No. 3Buy Israeli products and services. Do your part to counter the BDS movement by going out of your way to support Israeli merchants.

  • The Jerusalem Gift Shop, located in the heart of the Holy Land, allows you to shop for products from Israeli artists and manufacturers from across the Country.
  • The Judaica Web Store offers customers quality products from Israel.
  • ShopInIsrael.com aims to provide consumers worldwide with easy access to the best of Israeli products and services.
  • Made in Israel is a B2B (business-to-business) catalog for buyers, international importers, business and others interested in finding Israeli technologies, products, and/or services.

No. 4Visit Israel. Go to Israel on vacation. Hotels, stores, restaurants and other businesses benefit from tourism. In addition, when you visit Israel, you visit the birthplace of our faith - the place where the Word became flesh. Many people describe this as a life-changing experience.

No. 5Donate blood if you are in Israel. American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA) is is the world's largest supporter of MDA - the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross. Giving blood saves lives.

No. 6Invest in Israel. Despite terrorism, wars, and geopolitical turmoil, Israel's economy and markets have consistently delivered robust growth and strong returns, significantly outperforming the US stock market. You can help Israeli companies obtain venture capital funds and get a positive return on your investment (ROI) by investing in Israeli companies. To find investment opportunities, view this list of Israel ADRs trading on the US Exchanges. You can also invest in Israel for a little as $100 at IsraelBonds.com.

No. 7Protest bias in the media. The news media has a powerful influence on both public opinion and government policy. When you discover anti-Semitic bias in news reporting, contact the news agency and complain. You can join a media watch email list at HonestReporting.com and keep track of anti-Semitism of US college campuses at AMCHA Initiative.

Anti-Semitism makes people stupid! A recent headline from the Washington Times stated U.N. condemns Israel, U.S. for not sharing Iron Dome with Hamas. It is beyond ridiculous that any sane person would actually condemn Israel for not sharing its missile defense system with the terrorists seeking to destroy the nation. Romans 1:28 speaks of people who did not think it was worthwhile to acknowledge God. It goes on to say God gave them up to reprobate minds. Some of the synonyms for 'reprobate mind' used in various translations of the Bible include depraved/corrupted mind, immoral minds, degenerate minds, perverse understanding, and foolish thinking. These terms perfectly describe the utter foolishness so many anti-Semites believe about Israel and the Jewish people. Dictionary.com defines a reprobate as a depraved, unprincipled, wicked person, rejected by God and beyond hope of salvation. Surely, Satan is laughing with delight at all the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel reprobates soon to populate hell.

No. 8Contact the president. Call or email the President and respectfully urge him to support Israel in their battle against terrorism and to allow Israel to take action to defend itself. Write a short, personal email with a subject line like "Thank you for standing with Israel." Every call, letter, and email makes an impact. To send a message to the president, go to Contact the White House, or call the White House comment line at 202-456-1111 (comments), or 202-456-1414 (switchboard).

No. 9Help spread the Gospel of Yeshua (the Jewish Jesus). Lift up in prayer, promote on social media, and financially support the work of organizations seeking to bring the Good News of salvation in Yeshua to the Jewish people. The vision of One for Israel is to reach the entire nation of Israel with the gospel of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) online! Trumpet of Salvation uses a more traditional approach including street evangelism.

No. 10Stay informed. It is imperative that we keep up to date with the latest news and events surrounding Israel and the Jewish people. Be an informed participant in the events of Israel and the Middle East.

  • Israel Today is a Jerusalem-based news agency providing a biblical and objective perspective on local news.
  • Breaking Israel News offers a fresh and Biblical perspective on the latest news from Israel and the Middle East.
  • The Times of Israel is a Jerusalem-based online newspaper founded in 2012 to document developments in Israel, the Middle East and around the Jewish world.

Call to Action!

In this two-part article, we've examined seven Biblical reasons to support Israel and ten practical ways to do so. My challenge to you is that you commit to at least three actions you will do in support of Israel.

“For Zion's sake, I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake, I will not keep quiet.” (Isaiah 62:1)
